Orphan Works

I probably won't be updating this gallery anymore because of the new Orphan Works bill that seems like it's going to pass. It will basically allow anyone to steal your artwork - and not pay you, even if you sue them. That's the gist of it anyway. A simple search of DA or Google will tell you more about what's going on, or alternatively, check out

I was deeply saddened that this "art community" wouldn't be up in arms about Orphan Works - its such sad stuff.

BUT the fight's NOT lost - yet. :) Hope you're writing and calling to let them know you object to having your property put at risk. Tell your friends, tell them to tell their's.

I wasn't sure how I felt until I read the articles at Public Knowledge and saw that they really think an artist doesn't have any right to their own artwork. I was told that if someone else could use, they should have the right (like squatters and imminent domain) to just take it. That we shouldn't be paid anything (prefferably) and no more than 200.00 in any case.

Hope this never comes to pass in our lifetime. I'd love to think we could stop Google dead in their tracks.
